Volunteer for Tough Mudder and Run for $20
If you’re bored with road racing, you might need to try an adventure race. With the rise of trail and obstacle course based events, there are a lot of options for those seeking new ways to challenge themselves. If you’re looking for the ultimate challenge, Tough Mudder is the self-proclaimed, “toughest event on the planet.”
A friend of mine ran it last year and claims it “totally lives up to the hype.” Apparently, he was hoping to use the obstacles to “rest” along the 12 mile course in Somerset WI. He was very wrong. He finished (barely) and proudly displays his hard earned Mudder headband in the office.
Unfortunately, the race is also expensive. The super early bird fee is around $90, and if you signup now, it’s $150. Although worth every penny, we have a way you can run it for as little as $20. Read on…
What is Tough Mudder?
Tough Mudder is not a race, but a challenge. Designed by British Special forces, Tough Mudder is 10 – 12 miles of obstacle course mayhem that tests your “all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie.” You’ll run, dive, jump, hop, climb, crawl, shimmy, swim, and shake your way through 25 military style obstacles. On average, it takes 3.5 hours to complete the course.
They HIGHLY encourage you to signup as part of a team. Here’s why;
To get through mud, fire, ice-water, and 10,000 volts of electricity you’ll need teammates to pick you up when your spirits dip. To get over 12 foot walls and through underground mud tunnels, you’ll need teammates to give you a boost and a push. Tough Mudders are team players who make sure no one gets left behind.
Although Tough Mudder is physically and mentally grueling, it’s also fun. At the end, there’s a big party with free food, beer and rockin bands to greet you as your mud-covered self runs (or crawls) across the finish line.
Run Tough Mudder for $20
If you’d like to experience this push-yourself-to-the-limits-without-getting-electrocuted event, join the Mudder volunteer program for the Tough Mudder Minnesota. You’ll get to do lots of important things such as marking Mudders faces, pumping up the crowd at the start and putting hard earned headbands on Mudders at the finish.
Volunteering is free. If you’d also like to run, it’s $20. You get all the cool swag, but for a fraction of the price.
How to Volunteer
Volunteering for a race is an amazing experience. You get to see behind the scenes, and help make the magic happen for others. It’s even more fun with some friends.
If you’d like to volunteer for Tough Mudder coming up July 20 – 21 in Somerset WI, and run for $20, here’s what you need to do;
- Signup on the volunteer page.
- When asked, enter the volunteer code Minnesota1
They will gather typical registration information, and ask you a few questions about why you want to volunteer. You’ll get to pick your volunteer time and, if you’re able to volunteer a full day, get to run for $20. If you can only make it for half the day, you still only pay $40.
The deadline is late next week, so if you’re considering this, jump on it!
