Celebrate Strength, Health & Empowerment at Unleash the SHE
The Unleash the SHE 5K and 10K is more than a race. Just ask Jamie Puetz Groebner, who has been running the race for years in honor and later in memory of her sister Kristy Puetz. Kristy was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2005 and unfortunately lost her battle and passed away on Feb. 21, 2014.
“The Unleash the SHE event introduced my sister to other people affected by Ovarian cancer,” Groebner said.
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice, and you feel that power at the Unleash the She event. It drives you and excites you to finish the race because the true battle is in the struggle to overcome the surgeries, the chemo, the sickness & the fear of each affected woman. The Unleash the SHE is a powerful event.”
Groebner continues to participate in the Unleash the SHE event every year in memory of her sister. She says, “I also tested positive for the BRCA 1 gene mutation that causes breast and ovarian cancer and had surgery in 2014 to decrease my risk. This race is bigger than just me and my sister. We ALL have our own reasons for being in this event.”

About Unleash the SHE Rochester
The Unleash the SHE event is back in Rochester, Minnesota on Saturday, May 6th 2018. Women of all ages can register for the 5K and 10K, and men and women of all ages can participate in the untimed Support the SHE 5K walk or Kids 1k.
All runners receive a race shirt and finisher medals for both the 5K and 10K. Plus, door prizes, refreshments, and a fun community atmosphere await all runners and walkers at the finish line.
More than a race, the Unleash the SHE benefits the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA) with $5 from each registration. The MOCA is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and funding ovarian cancer research.
Participants also have the option to raise even money for MOCA by creating a fundraising page. Why ovarian cancer? This year alone, more than 400 Minnesota women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers.
Groebner says, “[the] MOCA has a huge impact on research and education right here in Minnesota, it truly helps women learn about the disease and it serves as a central hub where survivors along with the fighters can meet on a common ground and lift each other up through stories & fundraising. It’s become a powerful support group for many.”
Over 1,000 women participate in the two race distances, making the Unleash the SHE 5K and 10K one of the largest and fastest growing women-only events in the state! The camaraderie and energy that you’ll feel from being surrounded by so many like-minded, powerful women is out of this world!
Support the SHE
To recognize the many men who support women impacted by ovarian cancer, everyone is invited to join and show their support in the co-ed, untimed Support the SHE 5K walk. This event “gives men the opportunity to walk and run in solidarity with the women they support.”
An Event for Everyone
“Unleash the SHE is an event for everyone,” says Groebner. “Runners of all abilities come out to support the cause, support each other, and show that we are all fighting our own battles, sharing our stories, and keeping the memory of loved-ones alive.”
