The October 2014 Minnesota Race Guide
October should be considered “marathon month.” Not just because of TCM, or Mankato, or Bemidji Blue Ox or even Wild Duluth. Did you know four of the top 10 largest marathons in the country are held in October? In fact, there are 114 North American marathons happening this month – by far the largest concentration of marathons during the whole year.
With so many runners focused on preparing for those 26.2 magical miles, those not running one may feel neglected. Not to worry! There are still a TON of other races going on. From charity and cause based races, to plenty of spooky Halloween events, there’s something on this list for you.
Below are just a handful of the 5k, 10k, half and full marathons in October in Minnesota. For a more complete list, check out our race calendar.
This month, we would like to draw your attention to three races in particular.
If you’re not running the 33rd annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon October 5th, you can still participate in one of the other races. There’s literally something for the entire family.
In addition to the marathon, 10 mile, 10k and 5k, you’ll also find the Diana Pierce Family Mile, presented by Medica and Half Mile, presented by KS95 – These walker to runner-friendly out and back courses begin and end on John Ireland boulevard, near the State Capitol on October 4th.
The 50-yard Toddler Trot on the State Capitol lawn is great for kids learning to run! The event is run in waves, starting with the youngest competitors. A “competitive” crawl on the State Capitol lawn, the Diaper Dash, presented by Pioneer Press is perfect for little ones still on their hands and knees.
Even if you’re not participating at all, this Twin Cities tradition is a staple of the fall season. Get out there and cheer on those runners!
This great weekday trail series has just two more races for the year. They are October 1, 15. The course is a fun and challenging run through Hyland Lake Park Reserve with post-race adult beverages, beverages provided by Dyna Moo chocolate milk, tacos from Rusty Taco and swag from Salomon, FITS Socks, Seven Sundays Muesli, and Mill City Running.
It’s a great introduction to trail running for anyone who might be a curious, and it’s also a good environment for an experienced trail runner to test their speed on a fast, not-super-technical course.Register Now!
