Join the Great “Race” Across the Lakes
The winter months are great for trying something a little different than you are used to. Maybe that involves doing more activity inside. The treadmill, a bike, an elliptical or even the pool may be a welcome reprieve from the brutality of winter. Even with an elite level winter gear guide… it can still become a little much.
That being said, you can learn to embrace the winter wonder by varying your routine outside. Here is how one runner is deciding to do that, and you are welcome to join!
Ben from 6run2 has this idea…
Have you ever gotten bored with running around the lakes in Minneapolis countless times? Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to run across them? Well, now is your chance to join other like-minded runners and make your way across 4!
- When: Friday, January 30th, 7pm.
- Where: South side of Lake Harriet
- Distance: 7 miles, give or take.
I had the chance to talk with Ben Drexler, the event creator. We met randomly a few years ago at the TC 1 Mile and have kept in touch via social media (and he has written for us too). He has been part of a few other “no frills” events, and wanted to create something similar.
Check it out.
He encourages runners to bring all of the gear they might need (including headlamps, knuckles lights and YakTrax). Also, because it is a point-to-point, you’ll want to figure out transportation back to the start.
Get complete details of the event here.

To be clear, this event is totally free, and there will not be anything provided for you besides the company of other amazing runners. Think of it more as a group run with 50+ new running friends! Although it is free, anyone who would like to donate to ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students), can do so here.
After the event, everyone is invited to the CC Club in Uptown to hangout and grab some inexpensive food and drink.
If you’d like to mix it up a bit, join us for this fun, albeit unusual event. Runners will be asked to sign this waiver before participating.
See you there!
