How you Can Help Kids be Active on Give to The Max Day
November 12, 2015
November 13, 2014 is Give to the Max Day in Minnesota! For the past 6 years, Minnesotans have shown their support for local nonprofits and schools by donating millions of dollars to their favorite causes.
Despite technical difficulties in 2013 (the site was down for 6 hours), over $17.1 million dollars was raised for 4,437 nonprofit and education organizations in 2013. On one day! This came from 52,371 donors just like you. In 2014, Minnesotans raised the most ever, breaking a record, donating more than $18 million to schools and non-profits.
On Give to the Max day,
hundreds of organizations will offer the opportunity to double your dollars with matching grants throughout the 24 hours.
In addition, there are fun incentives to increase the amount of your donation. Every hour, two donors, will be randomly chosen to have $1,000 added to their donation. Additionally, at the end of the event, two donors will get $10,000 added to their donation.
This means more money goes to the charity you care about.
Why Help Kids be Active?
As the father of an always moving toddler, I am passionate about seeing our children grow up healthy and active. It’s startling the number of children who aren’t able to.
According to the Centers for Disease Control,
In 2010, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.
They cite a lack of physical activity as one of the major reasons. It is so easy for kids to get outside and run around, why aren’t they?
The reality is too many kids don’t have the necessary resources or access to make this happen. They may not be part of a family or community who are able to encourage or model an active healthy lifestyle.
This is why I’ve chosen Friends of TCM as my Give to the Max Day organization.
What is Friends of Twin Cities in Motion?
Twin Cities in Motion has an amazing sponsorship program called Friends of TCM. They focus resources on
creating healthy lifestyles for youth through running events, underscoring the importance of starting good fitness habits early in life.
They are in over 70 schools and 12,000 youth have benefited from these programs. It could be more…
Becoming a Friend of TCM is as simple as making a contribution in any amount. The money you contribute helps reduce barriers to participation in physical events, as well as provides educational resources so youth understand how to lead healthy lives.
Why You Should Donate to Friends of TCM
For as little as $10, you could put a child on the starting line at one of several Twin Cities Races. This pays for transportation to the event, as well as a medal and t-shirt.
$50 will give a budding high school distance runner a pair of much needed shoes. Participating in races gives kids confidence and pride, and encourages them to develop a life-long love of being active.
Last year, TCM raised $5,950 on Give to the Max Day. This was up from $2,795 in 2012. To put that in perspective, $5,950 pays for almost 600 kids to participate in an event on scholarship.
A donation to Friends of TCM will help support Twin Cities In Motion’s youth initiatives such as;
- TCM event entry scholarships
- School transportation to events
- After-school fitness/nutrition programming
- Annual college scholarships
- TCM’s High School Running Shoe program
- And more!
Your donation can help set our next generation up for success for years to come. Let’s help kids be active by supporting Friends of TCM during Give to the Max Day.
