Note from the Editor
So what’s new at Minneapolis Running this month? Well, we recorded another two podcast episodes and if all goes well, we will launch beginning in May. Hold me accountable to that! Would love some feedback on this!
We are also welcoming two new authors to the site. I’m excited to be expanding our ever evolving team, and grateful for the depth and breadth of experience they both bring. More details on them soon.
On a personal note, as I sit here writing this, I’m distracted by thoughts floating through my head about my upcoming race May 1. I’m running the Eugene Marathon, hoping to qualify for Boston. I’ve tried it before, but this time feels different. My training has gone well, my aches and pains are manageable, and my goal, while difficult, is attainable. I am trying to heed my own advice to relax this week, which is harder said than done.
Most things in life worth doing don’t come easy. Being uncomfortable often precedes success. If it was easy, perhaps it wouldn’t be quite as rewarding. When I hear about all these people trying to cheat their way into Boston, it baffles my mind. Running the actual race isn’t quite as magical as the process of getting there. Maybe I’ll be able to find out for myself soon enough.
Below are some of the featured races we’re excited to share with you.
The Mile in My Shoes Trail Run on June 4 supports the Mile in My Shoes organization in the Twin Cities. They aim to foster wellness, empathy and empowerment within individuals and communities by bringing together diverse populations through the power of running.
The Med City Marathon, May 25-26 has a plethora of event distances. It also boasts a gorgeous course, is geared towards runners of ages and abilities! It’s also a relatively inexpensive race weekend if you want to head down to Rochester and see what it looks like during the spring!
Another favorite summer race, is the Life Time Torchlight 5k on July 20. Run through downtown Minneapolis on a beautiful summer evening with thousands of other runners, then enjoy a sweet after party.
The Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5k (August 6) offers a refreshing mix of urban and wilderness through the streets and trails of Richfield Minnesota. A flat, fast course, offers an opportunity for runners of all abilities to welcome August in with style.
If you’d rather wait, and test your mental fortitude over the course of 26.2 miles, signup for one of these great fall marathons.
The Twin Cities Marathon is celebrating it’s 35th year. It is the gold standard when it comes to marathons. Everything about it is amazing.
If you’re looking for something new, checkout the Mankato Marathon on October 16. We just did a preview post, and feedback so far says it’s a fantastic event!
